ACCOUNTABILITY

Testing and accountability systems can overwhelm schools and produce reams of numbers that never come together to tell a story. We've developed a range of products to give your school the snapshot it needs to see what should happen next.

> DO-IT-YOURSELF TEST SCORE GRAPHING KIT
Make graphs of your CATS scores to serve the informational needs of your school. The kit includes a CD with a template that allows you to enter your own results and automat-ically get colorful graphs that can be used electronically — for publications or presentations — or to create easy paper copies. Our template also generates Gap Analysis tables. You get a Goal Calculator and a Studying Your Scores Kit (see full description, right), which helps you see the in-depth story your test score numbers tell. The kit includes KASC’s popular “pink sheets” for each subject area and the more comprehensive “blue sheets” for targeting novice performance and isolating achievement gaps.
NOTE: All Do-It-Yourself kits are priced for individual school use only.
MEMBERS $135; NON-MEMBERS $200

> STUDYING YOUR SCORES KIT
Take an in-depth look at the story your test-score numbers tell. This kit includes the KASC “pink sheets” for each subject area, and the more comprehensive “blue sheets” for targeting novice performance and isolating gaps by gender, ethnicity, socio-economic groups, and disability. The kit also also allows you to investigate patterns in student performance on multiple-choice versus open-response questions, and identify causes.
MEMBERS $95; NON-MEMBERS $145

> TEST SCORE GRAPHS
PAPER COPIES ONLY. We make your CATS data easy to study and share. Each set comes with our Assessment Study Sheets — KASC’s “pink sheets” — to guide your analysis. Go from understanding past performance to planning for future instruction. District graphs are also available.
FOR SCHOOLS: MEMBERS $75; NON-MEMBERS $125
FOR DISTRICTS: MEMBERS $100; NON-MEMBERS $200

> GAP ANALYSIS
Our analysis sorts your school’s key data into easy-to-read tables. Then, we mark the important gaps for you and make recommendations for setting targets and adopting timelines. We handle the arithmetic so you can focus on the learning challenges. For districts, we modify our school achievement gap analysis to show achievement trends and gaps across schools.
FOR SCHOOLS: MEMBERS $25; NON-MEMBERS $40
FOR DISTRICTS: MEMBERS $35; NON-MEMBERS $50

> BACK ISSUES OF INSIGHTS
Our newsletter is designed to give council members practical advice. Many councils use back issues as a helpful guide on basic accountability and testing issues. Copies of each issue are $7 for members, $12 for non-members

BASICS OF ACCOUNTABILITY: You get "begin at the beginning" explanations about what the state expects students to learn, how progress is measured, and what kind of improvement is expected.

CLOSING THE ACHIEVEMENT GAP: This 2003 issue asked schools with the best CATS results for African-American students, students with disabilities, and high levels of students from low-income families to share what is working for them.

CARRYING OUT SB 168: A quick primer from 2002 on working through achievement gap data, deciding what gaps are substantive, setting improvement targets, building agreement, and revising school plans to fulfill the requirements of the law spawned by Senate Bill 168.

MONITORING PROGRESS TOWARD PROFICIENCY: This 2007 issue looks at ways schools are using benchmark tests and formative assessement to get more regular feedback on student performance and more opportunities to help students succeed.
