Day 1, June 30: Building & Managing a Writing Community, Writers’ Notebooks, and Writing Across the Curriculum
Building a community of thinkers and writers begins the first days of school. Through daily writing invitations, learn to build your own writing community with connections across your curriculum. 


Day 2, July 7: Formative Assessment to Drive Teaching and Learning; Craft Lessons’ Conferring; Guiding Effective Peer Response
Use a strategy called “Quick Sorts” to formatively assess student learning on a piece of writing. From there, decide on the next steps for instruction, focusing on craft lessons that lift the quality of student work. Practice conferring and peer responses to develop an effective writing workshop. 


Day 3, July 14: Genre Studies, Real Audiences & Purposes and Publication in the Workshop
The secret to engaging students in their writing is with real audiences and purposes. Explore a variety of real writing opportunities anchored in genre studies and publishing projects.
