Last Day for KASC Board of Director Nominations

Nominations for Board Member Candidates will be accepted online from Wed, July 21 until Wed, Sep 15

Directors meet four times a year and govern the Association. Together they are responsible for:

• Creating policies

• Determining the course of the organization

• Determining the legislative agenda

• Approving our budget

• Hiring our Executive Director

• Other strategic decisions

Serving on the KASC Board is unlike serving with any other organization. Meetings involve more than just decision-making for KASC. Staying up-to-date on statewide developments, new initiatives, and research keeps our board members ahead of the game. The opportunity for networking with other members across the state is an added benefit.

The election will be held virtually between Wednesday, September 22, 2021 through Wednesday, September 29, 2021. Delegates will be contacted by email with directions for voting as soon as polls are open.

KASC’s Board of Directors includes a parent, a teacher, and a principal from each of eight regions in Kentucky, plus six at-large seats. The regions represent the former KDE Region Service Centers. This year, 14 Directors will be elected to three-year terms ending in 2024. Delegates selected by member councils from each region will elect the Directors for their own region as well as the At-Large Directors.

Seal of Arts Excellence Guidance Now Available
The Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) is pleased to announce new guidance for establishing a local Seal of Arts Excellence to recognize high school graduates who demonstrate an advanced level of specialization in one or more areas of visual and performing arts. The guidance can be found on the Seal of Arts Excellence webpage.

A new feature for creating a Seal of Arts Excellence on a student’s transcript will be available in Infinite Campus for the 2022-2023 school year. Districts will have the option of adding a Seal of Arts Excellence to a student’s transcript through the Graduation Tab that will include the date of completion as well as the area of specialization. KASC Council Member Shoutout
KASC will be recognizing the council members across our state who are leading their schools. If you’d like to recognize one or more of your council members, please complete this brief Nomination Form and we’ll share with all of our members and on social media. Let’s lift up one another in 2023!

SBDM Election Kit
Now included FREE with membership! Access to our election kit is available to all KASC members through our Learning Management System (LMS). The kit includes advice for developing written procedures, guidance for online elections, forms to customize for every step of the process, and legal requirements. Everything is organized for the person/group running each election, so organizers don’t have to view the entire kit.

Academic Standards Family Guides Available
The Kentucky Academic Standards (KAS) family guides were developed to help families familiarize themselves with the content of each grade level’s standards. Each guide contains a standards overview for reading and writing, mathematics, science, and social studies. The guides are now available in Spanish and can be accessed on the Standards Family Guides & Resources webpage on the KY Standards website.
