Fostering Geometric Thinking that Deepens Student LearningFor grades 6-8
July 19-21, Richmond Learn how to integrate research-based instructional strategies, aligned to support KAS for mathematics, to foster deeper geometric thinking in middle school students.
Audience: classroom teachers, math coaches, special education math teachers, and other math educators grades 6-8 who support highly effective math teaching.
18 hours of PD credit Facilitator: Dr. Jamie-Marie Miller, PIMSER Regional Teacher Partner & EKU Faculty Jamie-Marie was trained as a Master Teacher through PIMSER's NSF-funded Master Teacher Project. She was a mathematics classroom teacher for 19 years at the middle and high school levels and a math coach for 3 years in Lincoln County. She began teaching full-time at in the Department of Teaching, Learning, and Educational Leadership at Eastern Kentucky University in 2020. Courses taught include: Middle Grades/Secondary Methods and Geometry for Elementary Teachers for undergraduates; and Mathematical Foundations, Assessment/Pedagogy in P-5 and Mathematics Interventions for graduate students. Jamie-Marie was the recipient of the EKU Noel Studio Innovation in Teaching Award 2022. She has been active in the Kentucky Council of Teachers of Mathematics (KCTM) previously serving as Middle School Vice President (2 terms), President, and Past-President. Currently Jamie-Marie is a member of the Association of Math Teacher Educators and serves as Member-At-Large on the Executive Board. Jamie-Marie served on the Educational Professional Standards Board (EPSB) Program Review Committee and a Math Item Review for the Kentucky Department of Education and Pearson. Cost: $450
