(FRANKFORT, KY) – The Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) has released a new guidance document, "Guidance for COVID-19 Remote Learning Flexibilities," to support districts as they navigate the extended flexibility of temporary remote learning.
On November 30, 2021, regulation 701 KAR 5:100 took effect which provides new guidelines for school-based decision making alternative models. The changes were unanimously approved by the Kentucky Board of Education in April. School councils may add additional voting members, such as students, additional parents, classified staff, and community members to their council’s membership through an Alternative SBDM Application process.
(FRANKFORT, KY) – The Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) released a new guidance document on Sept. 20 to support schools and districts as they implement Senate Bill 1 (SB1), which was passed on Sept. 9 during the General Assembly’s recent special session.
The General Assembly adjourned last night on April 15 and will not come back into session until January 2021, unless called into special session by the governor. Most of the laws enacted will take effect in mid-July except for a few bills that had emergency effective dates.

Seal of Arts Excellence Guidance Now Available
The Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) is pleased to announce new guidance for establishing a local Seal of Arts Excellence to recognize high school graduates who demonstrate an advanced level of specialization in one or more areas of visual and performing arts. The guidance can be found on the Seal of Arts Excellence webpage.
A new feature for creating a Seal of Arts Excellence on a student’s transcript will be available in Infinite Campus for the 2022-2023 school year. Districts will have the option of adding a Seal of Arts Excellence to a student’s transcript through the Graduation Tab that will include the date of completion as well as the area of specialization. Academic Standards Family Guides Available
The Kentucky Academic Standards (KAS) family guides were developed to help families familiarize themselves with the content of each grade level’s standards. Each guide contains a standards overview for reading and writing, mathematics, science, and social studies. The guides are now available in Spanish and can be accessed on the Standards Family Guides & Resources webpage on the KY Standards website.
