C3WP Opinion/Argument Writing: Grades 4-6 or 7-12

July 16, Day 1: Writing into the Day
Learn how to integrate this powerful tool regularly to build skills and competence. It will create communicators and build writers as students explore their voice in response to new perspectives. Join a metaphorical table where students chat with experts and discuss how evidence with "authority" influences their thinking. Students begin learning how and why they need to support their arguments.

July 23, Day 2: Formative Assessment and Next Lessons
Learn how to use Quick Sorts as well as student and teacher versions of the Using Sources Tool to pinpoint student needs and address them. Revolutionize your approach to grading and planning (and save tons of time!).

July 30, Day 3: Lesson Sequences to Build Skills
Repeated reading, writing, and thinking about the sources moves an opinion to a claim. Your students will learn to introduce commentary by connecting evidence and claim as well as how to use Harris Moves to enhance an argument and Kernel essays to organize their arguments effectively.
