Legislative News 2024

Dear KASC Members,

The General Assembly will meet until late tonight as this is the last day before the ten veto days begin. Any bills passed today will be sent to the Governor for a potential veto. However, even if a bill is vetoed during this time, the legislature returns on April 12 and can vote to override the veto.  (For example, in 2023, the legislature overrode all 15 bills that Governor Beshear vetoed.)

With most bills, the Governor must veto the entire bill, but with the budget bills he may line-item veto specific provisions. Additionally, the Governor cannot veto a bill that seeks to amend the Kentucky Constitution.

KASC will delay sending Volume 13 of the legislative news today due to the many bills in flux.  We will let you know what happened next week.

For those of you who have Spring Break next week, we hope you get to rest, relax, and unplug.
